UMass Spring Concert
2010

Battle of the Bands

The Spring Concert line up was announced tonight at the Battle of the Bands: LMFAO, Electrolightz, New Found Glory, and Ludacris. The BOTB winner was C-BANGA.

A student from Holy Cross, David, sent in his opinion on their up coming Spring Concert...

No Room for Growth, No Room for Rock

"My school's Spring Concert headliner will be Drake, a reputable hip-hop artist. I have no vendetta or ill will toward hip-hop and rap, but I am disappointed with my school's choice. For me, a school is a place dedicated to the spirit of cooperation and creativity, diligence and even profound epiphany. In order to embody this spirit and aura, what better than a performance that culminates in a full-band effort, a live act that relies on a guitarist, a bassist, a percussionist, a singer, etc. My point is this: a band (rock, funk, jazz), and even a band with more than one person (i.e. an acoustic folk duo or trio), demonstrates collegiate ideals. More, bands rely on audience, and vice versa. There is no better feeling than the sight and sound of a full unit coming together before your eyes to create a noise that is almost holy. There is no better feeling than rocking, jumping (or, for lack of better terms) grooving with fellow peers. This is something that cannot be attained by hosting an artist whose name is singular, mighty, and seemingly exclusive."

How does this year stack up against last year's: All Time Low, Girl Talk, Lupe Fiasco?

LMFAO

Electrolightz

New Found Glory

Ludacris

Don't forget electrolightz! Or whatever it was. Battle of the bands was awesome the guitarist for Cbang was shredding some pretty sweet licks. I thought Skasome made a pretty good impression as well. Its too bad that it seems so hard to find local music around here, there must be so many bands and it was only a select few that got to play this show. But seriously, ludacris will be ridiculous. I'll definitely be bringing my chicken and beer to the show.

Ludacris is definitely a good choice.. LMFAO and Electrolightz look pretty straight too, though I never really listened to NFG I'm sure they'll put on a good show live. Just hope tickets don't sell out before I can get one!

I snagged a ticket today, wish it was a floor ticket. Last year I sat on the aisle people came down to get to the floor and they were ruthless. They didn't let anyone by without a ticket even though the floor was barely half full.

This is without question the worst line up UMass has tried for the spring concert. I'm a senior and I'm incredibly disappointed that I can't go to this year's concert.

Anonymous 04/03/10 02:21

How likely is it that Lil Jon shows up to yell SHOTS? I will be disappointed if YEAH! he's not OK! coming WHAT!

Anonymous 04/03/10 11:50

I'm so pumped for this lineup...best of my 4 years here for sure! Last year sucked...Lupe and Girl Talk blew. Luda is awesome and so is NFG! If people actually still followed NFG and their newest albums, they'd realize they still rock!

Rap artists don't perform "alone." There are many people working with a rap artist offstage as well as onstage to secure the success of a performance. Onstage, you can have a DJ, hypemen, other performers (Drake frequently collaborates) and, yes, sometimes even instruments.

When pretentious pricks like this guy get a microphone, it sort of sickens me. This sounds like an excerpt from a Writing 101 essay, of which I see a lot of. For lines that make you go 'ugh', see:

There is no better feeling than the sight and sound of a full unit coming together before your eyes to create a noise that is almost holy.

Holy? Hahahah. Also, there's a leap to second person perspective.

For me, a school is a place dedicated to the spirit of cooperation and creativity, diligence and even profound epiphany.

Mmmmm, sweet epiphanies that your girlfriend back home will never stay truthful and the guy in the room next to you really can drink thirty beers in a night. Also, needs to go back to 3rd grade from use of commas and the word "and" in a list.

I'm mad excited for Luda, but everything else is a little ehhhh...

Jon 04/03/10 19:17

Anonymous 04/04/10 13:41

dude lmfao and new found glory are like the shittiest musicians to ever hit the mainstream

Anonymous 04/05/10 01:34

its bushleague

I thought Lupe last year was great. He was the only act I showed up for so I can't really speak for any of the other performers last year although I heard Girltalk's performance was insane as well. I watched BOTB's and I think the two finalists were both great acts, I definitely like how C-Banga's performance incorporated all these different musicians and a singer and hype man as well- showed he took the contest seriously and wants to get the crowd going. I CAN'T WAIT FOR LUDAAAA OH SNAP. I think he's crazy and of course he's gonna get the crowd hyped up, best believe I'm gonna go crazyyyy when he comes on. As for all the other acts I dont really care as much, but I will be shoutin SHOTS when lmfao comes on haha, and i think their miami song is decent too. but yeahhh this concert for me is basically about the lmfao shots song and then LUDAAAAA, YA HEARD. Maybe ill just show up for the headliner like i did last year LOL

The peace that comes after throwing up a deliciously fattening meal is unreal. It's like god hit the pause button on life. Everything is buzzing as if frozen on a TV screen.

The sunlight seeps through my Venetian blinds as it does every morning at this time: 6:30 AM. Somehow, though, today feels different. It sounds different.
